The School Diary

  • Every student must carry the diary to the school daily.
  • Students and parents must read the contents of the diary carefully and abide by the rules laid down. It will be presumed that the information in the diary is known to all the students and parents.
  • It is important to fill up the first two pages of the diary. This information is required if the teachers need to get in touch with parents. This can sometimes be critical. Any changes in address or phone number must be communicated to the school by email and to the class teacher in writing, failing which the school may not be able to inform/consult parents in case of a medical emergency.
  • The school diary serves as a ready reckoner and planner. Besides being a convenient means of communication between the teacher and the parent, the children also use it for noting homework assignments and important information. Parents must go through the diary every day and sign notes / entries from the school, if any.
  • If any parent wishes to meet a teacher, an appointment should be sought through the diary. The student should be instructed to show the parent's written note to the concerned teacher.
  • In case a child has visited the medical room, an entry is made in the school diary by the medical officer, for information and necessary follow-up.
  • Rules and regulations printed in the diary can be altered at any time at the discretion of the school.

Attendance and Absence

  • Students must maintain a minimum of 75% attendance to receive grades in the report card. Exceptions may be granted by the Head of School only on valid medical grounds.

Senior Wing

  • The parents of children who have been absent on the previous day must make an entry in the diary, in the pages given for this purpose. Children from classes II onwards must also bring their own “leave letter”. These must be addressed to the teacher and should be written by the children themselves. Parents are requested not to encourage children to give false reasons for their absence. The school does not believe in punishing or scolding children if they are absent and definitely not in teaching children to lie.

    Identity Card

    • Students must wear their identity cards during school hours and while travelling to and from school.
    • For new admissions, the ID card form is filled up along with the admission formalities.
    • At the end of the session, parents are provided with a form to confirm or update information on the identity card for the next session. In case an identity card is lost or if parents wish to make changes to the card (e.g., a change of address), a form is available in the school office. The completed form must be submitted to the office along with a fee of ₹100 for each card required. Once the new card is ready, it will be sent to the child in their respective class.
    • Besides the student’s ID card, parents must get Escort cards made. These cards will be required for entry into the school.

    Discipline

Discipline is the practice of making choices that support one's long term growth as well as the well-being of others, even when those choices require added effort or restraint.

At school, we follow a balanced discipline approach, where good behaviour is reinforced and inappropriate behaviour is discouraged in a fair and supportive manner, without shaming, humiliating, or creating fear.

Every child is treated with dignity and respect.

    Code of conduct

    • Students are expected to be courteous and respectful to the staff, visitors and to one another.
    • Any form of bullying and use of foul language are punishable behaviors. Bullying may be direct (such as physical intimidation, verbal abuse, or damaging property) or indirect (such as spreading rumours or excluding others). Cyberbullying, including sending hurtful messages, images, emails, or misuse of social media, is also not permitted. In line with CBSE guidelines, students found engaging in such behaviour will face disciplinary action.
    • Students must not bring any item that may pose a risk to themselves or others. This includes pen knives, blades, firecrackers, Holi colours, party poppers, plastic bags, or any other potentially dangerous material. Bursting crackers or splashing colours in or around the school campus is prohibited.
    • Large sums of money, smart watches, mobile phones, cameras, expensive pens, fancy pencil-boxes, glass lunch boxes & bottles, jewellery, expensive toys, and other items should not be brought to the school. If found, the school has the right to confiscate them.
    • Students are not allowed to carry mobile phones to school. In exceptional situations, parents may request written permission from the Head of the School. If permitted, the phone must be handed over to the Class Teacher/Class Coordinator in the morning and collected at the end of the day.
    • No student shall engage in the following:
      1. Spitting in or near the school building
      2. Smoking/vaping/drinking
      3. Any form of gambling
      4. Rowdyism and rude behavior
      5. Casteism, communalism, or the practice of untouchability
      6. Use of drugs or intoxicants
      7. Damaging school property
    • Students below the age of 18 years and without a legitimate driving license are strictly prohibited from driving motorized vehicles.
    • Students must not use any unfair means during tests, examinations, sports events, etc. In the primary classes, children will be guided, counselled, and trained to understand fair practices. Teachers or the school counsellor will explain the consequences in a supportive and age-appropriate manner.
    • During school hours, students are not allowed to leave the school premises without written permission from the school counsellor, medical officer, or a competent authority. This includes leaving directly from school for birthday celebrations or social gatherings. If the student is not using school transport, parents must provide a written note specifying who the student will be leaving with. The school will contact the parents to confirm these details before granting permission.
    • All students are expected to abide by these discipline guidelines failing which appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.

    Disciplinary Action

    • The school absolutely does not believe in corporal punishment and expects parents too will not hit or use other harsh physical means to discipline their children.
    • Responses to inappropriate behaviour will always seek to be individualised, and will take into account – (a) the nature of the misdemeanour, (b) the student’s history and (c) what is likely to be most effective.
    • Loss of privileges (own time, participation in activities, excursions, assemblies and events, school trips) is used as a way to deter inappropriate behaviour.
    • The Yellow Card system is used to formally record warnings and punishment for repeated or serious inappropriate behaviours.
    • More than three instances of uniform misconduct in a month can also lead to appropriate punishment and/or issuance of yellow cards. In case of primary school students, parents are expected to shoulder more responsibility to ensure that their ward isn’t in violation of any disciplinary code.
    • A student, who has been given 3 yellow cards, is likely to be suspended from attending classes and/or activities.
    • Any form of bullying – direct, indirect or cyber – may lead to suspension from classes, rustication, or expulsion depending on the severity of the action.
    • The school will communicate relevant concerns to parents if necessary through the Parent-School Communication section of the diary or via email. Before sharing concerns, the teacher must consider the child’s background and home situation. In cases where the child may be experiencing distress or lack of safety at home, communication should be handled with care and sensitivity, keeping the child’s emotional and physical well-being as a priority.
    • Any damage to school property, whether intentional or accidental, will have to be made good by the parents of the student(s) concerned.
    • A student who uses unfair means during tests, examinations etc. will be given no marks and repeated use of such means could also lead to suspension from the school. In the primary grades, as children are still learning and may test boundaries, concerns are first addressed through guidance and counselling. If required, consequences are introduced gradually in an age-appropriate manner.
    • Use of unfair means and/or practices during sports events could lead to removal from the team and suspension from sports classes for a period of 2 months.
    • Mobile phones are not permitted in school unless permission has been granted. Any phone found without approval will be confiscated and handed over only to the parent.

    Damage to School Property

    • Care must be taken of all school property and no student should scratch or spoil the desks or charts or damage any furniture, write or draw anything on the walls or damage things belonging to others.
    • Any damage done, whether intentional or accidental, will have to be made good by the parents of the student(s) concerned as mentioned in the school’s discipline policy.
    • Library books, lost or disfigured by students, will have to be replaced by their parents.

    Children's Property

    • All uniform items, books and stationery should have the name and class of the child to whom they belong. The school is not responsible for any loss.
    • Children are encouraged to bring water bottles and home-cooked food to school.
    • Large sums of money, smart watches, mobile phones, cameras, expensive pens, fancy pencil-boxes, glass lunch boxes & bottles, jewellery, expensive toys and other items should not be brought to the school. If found, the school has the right to confiscate them.
    • Non-compliance of the above-mentioned rules could lead to action in accordance with the discipline policy.

    Birthdays and Gifts

    Birthdays

Birthdays are important milestones for children of all ages. To celebrate the birthday of your child, please do not send chocolates, toffees, candies, cookies or any other packaged food product. Instead, you may send only one pencil (costing max Rs. 5 or less) without packaging, for each child of the class. Other items, if sent, will be returned without distribution.

    Gifts

While the school appreciates the children's affection and regard for their teachers, particularly on Teacher's Day, no flowers, readymade cards, pens or any gifts purchased from the market will be accepted. Any gifts on Teacher's Day, or any other occasion, must be hand-made by the children themselves.

    Social Responsibility

    Senior Wing

  • In an effort to sensitize our students and instill a sense of responsibility towards those less fortunate than them, the school has a tradition of collecting 'Friday Collection' from children and teachers of classes I-XII. Contributions of outgrown clothes, toys and small amount of cash (less than Rs. 10) can be given to the class teachers on Fridays. These contributions are used by NGOs with whom our senior students interact, or they are used during national calamities.
  • Junior Wing

  • In an effort to sensitize our students and instill a sense of responsibility towards those less fortunate than them, the school has a tradition of collecting ‘Friday Collection’ from children and teachers of classes I-V. Contributions of outgrown clothes, toys and small amount of cash (less than Rs. 10) can be given to the class teachers on Fridays. These contributions are used by NGOs with whom our senior students interact, or they are used during national calamities.
    • The school also organises visits to old age homes, orphanages & schools for differently abled as a part of the community service programme.
    • The school is committed to inculcating eco-friendly habits in children as part of the Green School Programme. To support this initiative, the school has been declared a plastic-free zone. We actively discourage the use of plastic and encourage children to adopt the principles of reducing, reusing, and recycling. Please ensure that your child's lunch or any other materials they need to carry are not sent in plastic bags. Additionally, we promote the reuse of stationery wherever possible to minimize waste.

    School Library

    • To inculcate good reading habits is an important aim of our language curriculum. The school’s library is well equipped with more than 30,000 books and plenty of children’s films.
    • All children from class 1 upwards go to the library. During library periods, under the supervision of the library teacher, several literary activities happen. Besides choosing and reading books, there is the listening of stories and guided watching of classic children’s movies.
    • The school library has a scheme of 'give one; take one' wherein children can give books which they no longer want, and are in good condition, and take books which they might want to read.
    • The library frequently organizes various book exhibitions, discussions with authors and book-quizzes.

    Senior Wing

  • Each class in the school has a class-library from classes Nursery-IX, for additional reading during free time in class. Children are encouraged to issue a book every week from the class-library. Class teachers also read aloud to the children from books in the class library.
  • Junior Wing

  • Each class in the school has a class-library from classes Nursery-V, for additional reading during free time in class. Children are encouraged to issue a book every week from the class-library. Class teachers also read aloud to the children from books in the class library.
    • Journals, magazines, and reference books are to be handled with care in the library. If a new magazine or journal is damaged. Then the cost of the magazine will be levied.
    • Lost/damaged books have to be replaced by the students.
    • Each student shall record in his/her diary, names of the books he/she has read during the session.
    • Parents' involvement in the reading program can have a huge impact on their child's academic learning. We encourage parents to read the books their children bring home, and have discussions around the stories. The benefits of reading aloud to children, whether from a school story-book or a personal book, cannot be over-emphasised.
    • If a book is not returned within the stipulated time, teacher will send a note and talk to the parents to resolve the problem.

    Educational Trips and Excursions

Educational trips and excursions are organized outside the school on a regular basis such as visits to historical monuments, planetarium, museums, book fairs, bird sanctuaries and science centres to reinforce learning outside the classroom. It is important for children to participate as these are related to the school curriculum. Students also learn to get along with each other and become more independent. For both Delhi and outstation trips, parents are encouraged to research the places of visit and discuss with the children. Parental consent in writing is required for the children to go on these trips.

    Counselling and Special Education

Counselling is a fundamental aspect of the ethos at Cambridge School. Counsellors connect students, parents, and teachers to ensure everyone is aligned in supporting the students’ growth and well-being. They create tailored prevention and intervention strategies to guide students on a healthy path towards adulthood.

Counsellors are available for individual sessions to help students manage stress, handle social or emotional challenges, and address behavioral concerns. In SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) classes, they help students understand and regulate their emotions, build better relationships, and make thoughtful decisions.

Alongside counselling support, a team of special educators support children with special needs. They assess individual learning difficulties and work closely with students to develop academic, social, and behavioural skills.

Parents are encouraged to consult them for advice or assistance, with prior appointments.

Please note: Cambridge Schools align with CBSE, DOE and Supreme Court guidelines which recognise counselling as an essential part of student care. The school may refer students to the counsellor as part of this support, with parental consent understood to be implied through enrolment. Counsellor-student interactions are confidential and parents will be informed if a student’s safety is at risk or when required by law.

Assessment and Reporting in Primary School

Assessment in primary school is designed to provide a comprehensive view of each child's progress and development. The academic year is divided into four Learning Cycles, and at the end of each cycle, a report is shared with parents. This report offers a clear picture of the child's strengths, interests, and skills. It includes both quantitative data, reflecting the child's academic performance, and qualitative feedback, providing insights into their behaviour, participation, and overall progress.

    Term 1Term 2
    Learning cycle 1 - April - MayLearning cycle 3 – October - December
    Learning cycle 2 - July – SeptemberLearning cycle 4 – January - March

    Assessment in Foundational years

    Nursery

In Nursery, assessment is ongoing and continuous, based on observations. Teachers record anecdotes to track each child's progress. The focus at this stage is on helping children adjust to the school environment and prepare for a more structured learning experience. Learning happens through play-based activities within the school, allowing children to develop at their own pace, with no pressure on either parents or children. The assessment is skill-based, focusing on growth and adjustment rather than knowledge or concepts.

Detailed reporting will take place twice a year, at the end of each term. Periodic parent-teacher meetings (PTMs) will be held, where parents can meet with teachers to receive feedback and discuss their child's development.

    Prep—Class 2

In Classes Prep to 2, there will be no formal assessments. Instead, the assessment process will be ongoing and informal, based on regular observations of the children's progress. Teachers will evaluate their development through classwork, worksheets, and daily interactions, ensuring a stress-free and supportive learning environment.

Reporting will occur four times a year, at the end of each learning cycle. In Learning Cycles 1 and 3, the focus will primarily be on language skills and math. For Learning Cycles 2 and 4, detailed term-end report cards will be shared, covering all aspects of the child's learning and development.

    Assessment in Preparatory years

    Classes 3-5

In Classes 3 to 5, formal assessments are introduced. Assessment for learning Cycle 2 will be scheduled in September, between 7th and 25th, whereas Assessment for learning Cycle 4 will be scheduled in February between 10th and 26th. Exact dates will be shared approximately two weeks in advance, as these assessments do not require extensive preparation. Regular review of classwork and homework is encouraged to build consistent learning habits.

The focus will be on application-based and logical questions to promote understanding and critical thinking, rather than memory-based tasks. Reporting will happen four times a year. Learning Cycles 1 and 3 will focus on progress in language and math, while Cycles 2 and 4 will include detailed term-end reports covering all areas of learning.

75% attendance is mandatory for promotion to the next class.

Students will need to pass the Class V assessments in order to be promoted to Class VI.
