The New Education Policy 2020 (NEP)
The New Education Policy 2020 (NEP) and early education at Cambridge Schools
The NEP recognises that most of a child’s brain develops in the first six years of life. With this understanding, it places significant emphasis on early childhood education and has mandated an additional year in the introductory stage at school.
The objective is to give more time to strengthen foundational literacy and numeracy as well as social and emotional growth. These skills stand the students in very good stead in the later grades and makes the early years’ fun and stress-free.
Cambridge School’s philosophy found a natural ally in the NEP’s vision and we embraced it with enthusiasm. The school aligned its foundational curriculum with the NEP from the nursery batch of 2023 – 24 and teachers as well as parents, are delighted with the results - children learning in an unhurried way – with much more focus on oral work, and pre-number, pre-reading and writing skills.
The NEP 2020 restructured the school curriculum and pedagogy into a 5+3+3+4 system which works out as follows:
Foundational Stage: for 5 years ( Nursery to class 2 )
The nomenclature for the classes is different in different schools
Preparatory Stage
3 years from class 3 to class 5
Middle Stage
3 years from class 6 to class 8
Senior Stage
4 years from class 9 to class 12
The National Education Policy (NEP)
The National Education Policy (NEP) is a transformative framework aimed at revolutionizing India’s education system. It focuses on holistic development, innovative teaching methods, and the integration of technology with traditional values. NEP promotes a learner-centric environment that nurtures critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong learning. At our school, we are proud to embrace NEP’s vision, ensuring our students are well-prepared to thrive in a rapidly changing global landscape.
This progression ensures that each child receives a strong foundation for lifelong learning and growth.content
